The television rights for coverage of the 2010 World Cup and the opening of a training workshop for TV media personnel has been launched in Accra.

TV3 is part of the TV consortium and will broadcast live the World Cup events.

100 media persons are also to benefit from a six-day training programme offered by the world football governing body, Fifa and the Africa Union Broadcasters, AUB.

Present at the ceremony was the Minister of Information, Zita Okaikoi, deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Nortey Dua, officials from Fifa, Africa Union broadcasters, AUB, chief executives from TV stations with the rights to cover the 2010 World Cup tournament, commentators and media personnel.

Three local TV stations have been given the rights to cover the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa.

Tv3 is one them.

Heads of the TV consortium, Ghana Television and Metro TV, expressed their commitment in ensuring quality delivery.

A team of experts numbering about seven from France has also began training 100 personnel for TV directing, TV commentary techniques, image gathering techniques and coaching.

The training programme will last for six days.

Ghana is the first beneficiary of the training programme.

The Minister for Information, Zita Okaikoi on behalf of the vice president, launched the workshop.

She was hopeful Ghana will not only qualify and participate in the tournament but will lift the trophy.

A Director at Fifa, Niclas Ericson, said the Fifa media rights project and AUB Fifa broadcast academy will include other football events such as the Under 20 World Cup 2009.

The deputy minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Nortey Dua, was convinced the training programme will enhance manpower development and assured government's commitment to ensure the black stars qualifies for the World Cup.
